Riley and Hayden had their first day at their new TeMpoRary school today. It has been a week of adjustment being here and without their favorite buddies to play with. They have been a little bored but having some fun with grandma and cousins.
I walked with them the short walk to the school (uphill in the snow both ways, for reals) and I felt terrible as I left them in their classrooms. They had a look of terror on their faces. I watched Hayden as the other kids came into the classroom and he got really really nervous and I had to say good bye. Then I wandered back down the hall and peeked in at Riley and she was stiff as a board and looking quite awkward, like she wanted to jump under her desk and die. I felt so terrible for them. It stinks being the NEW KID.

Then I came home and worried about them all day. Then 3:30 pm came and I watched them walk to the door. The first thing Hayden said all cocky, " yah, I'm friends with just about every person in my class now" HA HA It was so funny. Riley looked very chipper herself and started rattling off about 15 names of new girls she had made friends with and even has a invite for a afterschool HANGOUT with a new friend Bryn. They couldn't stop and let the other one talk they were so excited to tell me and grandma O about their day.
We celebrated with a yummy bowl of rocky road icecream. YUM!!
Thank goodness for a good first day of school!!

I'm so glad for them. Who wouldn't like those two cuties. I remember the same thing when we got here. Alexa kept saying how nervous she was. But after school they realized it wasn't so bad and had made friends. Then, I think the newness wore off and it got a little wierd again. They got a little more homesick for friends back in AR. After Christmas break Alexa had a really hard time, which was wierd but now EVERYTHING seems to be back to normal and the girls feel quite at home. It's an adjustment for everyone.
YAAY! I couldn't be more happy that your kids LOVED school, I knew they'd fit right in. Who wouldn;t want to be their friends? Seriously, the neighborhood kids are going to be lining up at Grandma's door before you know it.
Oh I'm so glad that it went well... it is so scary being the new kid. It is probably harder on the mom watching them be the new kid and all scared. How are you liking Utah!?
It is scary being the new kid (as you know), but everyone is so excited when there is a new kid, it always works out. Plus, your kids are seriously the coolest kids ever. They won't have a problem where ever they end up.
so glad it was a good day. you are both such cute kids i knew it would be cake to make buddies!!
i'm so glad everything worked out. their classmates probably don't get too many new kids after the year starts. hayden & riley are the novelty!! :)
i'm glad they made new friends on their very first day of school! That's freaking awesome! I hated being the new kid, but it gets better from there! :)
Those kids will never have trouble making friends, they are such good kids!
Oh I was so Happy to hear they made friends and enjoyed the 1st day of school. It is never easy to start anything new especially start school in a new class all alone! You can tell they have been taught well by Mom how to be a good friend. Best of luck with all you have ahead! I know Jamie is so Happy as can be to have you around to play with! You Lucky Duck! Enjoy!
